The second page of our honeymoon pics....

The island of Zakynthos was completely destroyed in the earthquake of 1953 and remains very much an island under construction. Only three buildings were left standing after the earthquake. One of them was the Church of Saint Dionysius the Aeropagite - affectionately known as Saint Denis by the islanders.
 
We visited the town of Zakynthos where the body of St Denis is kept in a truly magnificent church. Inside it is covered with gold but we were not allowed to take any photos.
 
According to tradition St Denis walks the island looking after the inhabitants and each year on his feast day the locals replace his slippers ready for another year of walking.....
